Kidsgrove Athletic suffered a 5-2 defeat to Peterborough Sports at the Novus stadium. This win for the away side meant that they were safe from being relegated from the league.
Peterborough Sports started the game off more brightly, they were keeping the ball well and looked dangerous when they went forward.
The away side were rewarded for their work in the 11th minute of the game, when the Grove conceded a penalty after Rhys Thompson brought down Joshua Moreman in the box. Dave Parton stopped the penalty with an incredible save to his bottom left corner to deny Lewis Hilliard.
The opening goal came a couple of minutes later, there was miscommunication between Parton and Grove defender Leon Ashman. Parton decided to come off his line and help Ashman clear the ball, but Jordan Macleod got to the ball first and chipped the ball over Parton to give the away side the lead
There was an early Substitution for the Grove, Rumineo replaced Kidsgrove Athletic’s top scorer Anthony Malbon because the striker landed awkwardly on his ankle which resulted in him being carried off.
The visitor’s double their lead in the 27th minute of the game through forward Mark Jones. Jones received the ball in the box and ran straight at defender Rhys Thompson, he moved the ball from his right foot to his left and fired the ball past Parton.
A couple of minutes later the Grove got a goal back to put them back in to the game, Skelton received the ball on the wing and put in a dangerous ball into the box which was deflected by Richard Jones who put the ball into his own net.
Kidsgrove started the second half with more intensity, they had more possession and looked more organised. But that all changed in the 53rd minute after the visitors got their third goal of the game, the goal came after Lewis Hilliard won a fifty-fifty challenge with Oliver Jepson and decided to have a shot from long range which curled past Parton.
In the final 10 minutes of the game Kidsgrove got another goal back to make it 3-2 which gave them a chance to get something out of the game. Beaumont received the ball at the edge of the box and blasted the ball in to the top right corner of the goal.
Peterborough Sports got their fourth goal in the 84th minute of the game which ruled out a chance for the Grove to get something out of the game. Hilliard got his second goal of the game after cutting in from the right and driving the ball past Parton with his left foot.
The final goal came in the 89th minute for the away side after the Grove switched off in defence, Hilliard took a corner and Mark Jones had a free header on goal and easily put it past Parton to also get his second goal of the game.
Kidsgrove Athletic now take on Carlton Town on Saturday 14th April at the Novus Stadium, kick off will take place at 15:00pm.
