Anthony Malbon was on fire once again as Kidsgrove Athletic blitzed past relegation-doomed Skelmersdale United at Holinwood Road.
A hat-trick from the captain along with a Kyle Diskin free kick made it back to back 4-0 wins for Ryan Austin’s side following their win over Mossley in mid-week.
It was Grove who were in the ascendancy for much of the first half, controlling possession and trying to break down a resolute Skelmersdale defence.
Just when it looked as though the visitors would see out the half, Malbon popped up with his first of the afternoon right on the stroke of half time.
The skipper picked up the ball on the edge of the area with his back to goal, before turning his man, leaving two in his wake and prodding the ball past Ryan Kirkman to give the Grove a well-deserved half time lead.
And the Grove top scorer came flying out of the blocks for the second half. Less than 10 minutes after the restart he doubled his tally, latching on to a Chris Budrys through ball and firing beyond Kirkman from close range.
And seconds later, he capped off a stunning quick-fire hat-trick, cutting inside and smashing into the roof of the net to put The Grove in cruise control.
The home side added a fourth shortly after when Diskin rifled home a free kick from the edge of the box to make it 8 goals in just two games for Austin’s men.
Despite several chances for Malbon to add another and clinch his 30th goal of the season, Grove were made to settle for just the four goals.
They now look ahead to a trip to Manchester on Tuesday night for a mid-table clash with Dave Pace’s Droylsden.
