Kidsgrove Athletic fell to a 2-0 defeat in a mid-table clash with Colwyn Bay to end a 5 match unbeaten run in the league.
An Ashley Woods brace was enough to send Craig Hogg’s men back to North Wales with all three points and move them up to 9th.
But it was the home side who had the majority of the early chances with top scorer Anthony Malbon going close a number of times in the early goings.
Andrew Coughlin was on hand just 6 minutes in to deny the Grove skipper’s low driven shot from outside the area, and moments later Malbon was able to turn his man inside the box but his effort whistled just wide of the mark.
But despite Grove’s early success, it was the visitors who opened the scoring right on the stroke of half time.
A quick breakaway led to a cross in towards Woods who rose highest to nod home his first of the afternoon and give his side the advantage at the interval.
Kidsgrove thought they had a penalty 10 minutes into the second half after Lee Williamson was dragged down in the area, but referee Reece Davies waved away the strong appeals from the Grove players.
And minutes later, The Seagulls doubled their lead through that man Woods again. The ball was pulled back to the number 9 on the corner of the Grove area and his first time shot went beyond Harrison to nestle in the bottom corner.
Despite a couple of opportunities for The Bay talisman to complete his hat-trick, the score remained at 2-0 to condemn Grove to back to back defeats.
Ryan Austin’s side will now look to return to winning ways in mid-week as they host high flyers Mossley on Wednesday night.
