Kidsgrove Athletic manager Ryan Austin has started preparing for next season and believes he will have to strengthen their squad, ahead of the start of next season in order to be more competitive.

Ryan Austin’s men suffered a 4-2 defeat away at Alvechurch in midweek. Despite losing Austin still feels confident that his team can get something out of Saturday’s game against Belper Town.

The last time the Grove played Belper Town in the league they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home.

“Obviously, we never got the result that we wanted against Alvechurch. But there were certain aspects of the performance that were positive,” he said.

“We will take the positives out of that game and take it into Saturday’s game. If we performed how we did at midweek, then I hope to come away with another positive result.”

Austin and his backroom staff have started preparing for next season and Austin believes bringing in new players over summer will be key to having a good season.

“We started planning for next season a couple of weeks ago if not longer. Me and Will Ryder (head coach) have had multiple discussions with the board,” said Austin.

“I don’t want to be in a relegation battle like we were in this season, we want to be more competitive so we will be out recruiting players and looking to strengthen without a shadow of doubt.

“Every team needs to strengthen their squad each year, if you don’t strengthen and stand still teams will bypass you so it is important to bring players in.

The Grove are currently 19th in the league and sit above local rivals Newcastle Town. The Grove were guaranteed safety after last Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Carlton Town. Bottom place Romulus FC suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Lincoln United securing the Grove’s league status.

“We picked up the result that we needed last Saturday to make sure were safe from being relegated. We know that we slightly underachieved this season if we are being realistic but we are looking to do much better next season,” added Austin.
